PH Marines help settles rido in Lanao del Sur

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Seeing that clan or family feuds locally known as rido remain a challenge in maintaining peace and order in Lanao del Sur, the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2 continues to facilitate rido settlements in the coastal areas of the province.

LtCol. Sergio Ronquillo III, commander of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2, said they relentlessly promote the conduct of rido settlements to prevent the loss of lives and damage to properties and create a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere conducive to living.

“The coastal towns are generally peaceful and manageable, however, these towns are still challenged by existing family and clan feuds,” he said during the 4th quarter meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council.

In response to this, he said the marine battalion is conducting dialogues recognizing that “articulation is the best way forward and the best approach to lessen the occurrences of rido.”

“We should always articulate this in everyday meetings to prevent our next generation from doing rido and resort to legal means for seeking justice,” he added.

According to Ronquillo, there are 23 major ridos in the coastal towns of which nine were already settled.

The coastal towns covered by the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2 are Picong, Malabang, Marogong, Balabagan, and Kapatagan. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
