Project TUGON ensures return of ex DI-MG combatants to mainstream society

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The government is continuously moving to ensure that the former members of the Dawlah Islamiyah Maute Group (DI-MG) who fled their group to surrender to authorities will be fully transitioned back to mainstream society.

The 103rd Infantry Brigade relayed that the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) of the Bangsamoro region partnered with them for the enforcement of a relevant strategy dubbed Project Tulong ng Gobyernong Nagmamalasakit (TUGON) that provides proper interventions for the reintegration of insurgents into the normalcy.

The brigade’s Civil Military Operations (CMO) Officer LtCol. Palawan Miondas detailed that among the main objectives of the project is to enlighten the returnees as they are given a chance to rebuild their lives and become peace and law-abiding citizens in their respective communities.

Under Project TUGON, many former insurgents received a P5,000 cash grant, 50-kilo sacks of rice, gallons of alcohol, and some food items.

They are likewise guaranteed to undergo entrepreneurial skills training that can be significant in starting their new livelihood.

Miondas recalled that their last provision of aid benefitted 41 former rebels from the municipalities of Butig and Piagapo both in the province of Lanao del Sur.

The brigade trusts that Project TUGON can effectively combat violent extremism and finally put an end to it. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
