MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--International organization Islamic Relief Philippines is empowering 600 household members in the municipality of Ditsaan-Ramain on financial management.

The first batch of trainees consisting of 100 individuals from Lumbatan village is currently undergoing the training. They are divided into 10 self-help groups (SHGs), composed of 10 members per group, depending on their interests and livelihood proposals.

The remaining 500 households will have their turn within June until July this year. They will come from barangays Linamon, Barimbingan, Buadi Alao, Bagoaingud, and Maindig.

Each SHG will then receive a cash grant amounting to P50,000 as start-up capital for their chosen livelihood after the training. Other needed equipment that cannot be purchased with the cash grant will also be provided by Islamic Relief.

Aside from financial management, the 600 household members will also be taught about product and market development. Those who will engage in skills-based livelihood will likewise undergo skills development and/or enhancement training.

Sittie Jamairah Disomimba, Islamic Relief area programme manager, said the training is under the livelihood component of the Sustaining Transformative and Resilient Initiatives for Vulnerable Communities (STRIVEC) in Ranao Philippines, a three-year project intended to help internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Marawi City and their host communities.

She said Ditsaan-Raman was chosen as the recipient municipality, through the help of Task Force Bangon Marawi, since it is where a lot of IDPs sought refuge during the 2017 siege.

The livelihood training aspect of the project, on the other hand, is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Investment.

Meanwhile, Disomimba urged the beneficiaries to grab the opportunity to jumpstart their lives by applying their learnings to sustain their chosen livelihood. She said this is an opportunity given to them in exchange for their vision of making the assistance sustainable in the long run.

She further gave assurance that Islamic Relief is always ready to lend a helping hand to improve their lives as the organization will implement ist programs and projects in Lanao del Sur until June 2023.
