Local councils in Marawi tackle security, dev't issues

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--In a bid to respond to issues affecting Marawi's development, the city government of Marawi convened members of the City Peace and Order Council, City Anti-Drugs Abuse Council, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Local School Board, Local Health Board, and People's Law Enforcement Board in a joint meeting Monday, June 20.

The meeting focused on the peace and order updates for the first semester including the accomplishment reports of the local councils and boards.

The members of the councils also tackled strategies to decongest traffic and combat illegal signal boosters that caused disruptions in internet connectivity in parts of the city.

Citing the various rising infrastructure development in Marawi brought about by the massive government-led rehabilitation, City Mayor Majul Gandamra underscored the importance of sustaining the city's peace and security to entice investors to come in.

"Right now is the time na iniinvite na natin ang ating mga neighbors na mag-invest at magpunta sila dito [that we invite our neighbors to invest and come here]," he said.

Based on the assessment of the city police, Marawi is fairly peaceful as well as safe and sound with a moderate terrorism threat level.

City Police Chief Lt. Col. Renato Mauricio Jr. emphasized that the city is still a safer place to live and do business. He attributed this to the strong collaboration between the Marawi City Police, the 103rd Infantry Brigade, and the 500 Combat Engineer Battalion that led to a decrease in crime incidents and deter would-be criminals.

Meanwhile, Gandamra thanked and lauded members of the police, army, and City Schools Division of Marawi, who played a big part in the safe and successful conduct of the 2022 national and local elections in Marawi.

Other sectors were also recognized which, in one way or another, became part of the present administration’s peace efforts and initiatives. (APB/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
