MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur—Recognizing the lack of livelihood as one of the main drivers of instability in the siege-stricken city, the Korea International Cooperation Agency Philippines (KOICA) in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) continues to roll out livelihood support for internally displaced persons (IDPs) here.
“IOM and KOICA initiated the 'Driving Marawi's Rehabilitation through IDP Support, Community Development, and Peaceful Transitional Action' project to strengthen the resilience of persons and communities affected by the Marawi conflict. Our project addresses the major drivers of instability and displacement by establishing community-based psychosocial support mechanisms, providing livelihood assistance, and constructing key infrastructure,” said KOICA Assistant Country Director Younlee Kim.
Kim visited the city to check on the progress of their project and witness the graduation of some of their beneficiaries from the Dressmaking NC II training and subsequently the handover ceremony of start-up kits to the graduates.
“Our project reflects the Korean government's firm resolve to help the people of Marawi and neighboring areas recover and improve their socio-economic situations,” she said.
Kim stated that the livelihood starter package would enable the graduates to use their skills for income-generating activities.
“Our livelihood support would help the communities increase their income and rebuild their lives paving a firm ground for sustainable and self-reliant effort for a peaceful transition,” she further said.
Meanwhile, the KOICA assistant country director congratulated their beneficiaries for completing the training. She is optimistic that the training would give them more access to livelihood and employment opportunities.
"I hope that you would utilize your training and assistance package wisely and effectively," she told the graduates. (APB/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
