MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Advancing economic progress in the province of Lanao del Sur, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has carried out more initiatives to push for more economic activities in the municipalities within the territory.
Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Northern Mindanao Cluster Head Olie Dagala discussed that under the authority’s Mindanao Development Corridors (MinDC), they are integrating “7Is” to harness Mindanao’s Comparative Advantage which includes interconnectivity, institutions, innovation, integrity of the environment, indigenous knowledge and practices system, industries and investments.
He bared that as part of their projects to sustain the improvement, they aim to transform Marawi City into a center of trade or business hub of Lanao del Sur which will have tri-polar development approach, involving the city itself and the municipalities of Malabang and Wao, all in the same province.
Dagala said they look forward to the development of adjacent municipalities as production areas, ensuring wide stakeholders' engagement on security and risk vulnerability reduction, increasing productivity, reducing poverty, and promoting lasting peace.
“Dapat mayroong isang malaking area talaga na kung saan nandoon ang investments. Ito iyong inaidentify namin na Marawi na mayroon silang area na ganito kalaki. Winowork-out na namin para sa economic zone ng Marawi City,” he said.
[There should be a big area where the investments are there. This is what we identify as Marawi, that it has to be a big enough area. We are working it out already for the economic zone of Marawi City.]
Dagala further said. that under the joint program of the provincial government here and the MinDA dubbed as Lanao del Sur Integrated Program for Agriculture Development (LIPAD), more components were incorporated which include the establishment of a digital database and system collaboration coined as “One Mindanao One Data”, production and processing of high-quality rice, integrated corn grains thru silo storage facility, the establishment of goat and cattle breeding and fattening centers, production of high-value crops like cassava and other vegetables, free-range poultry and duck raising with fish cage farming, high-value fruit trees farming, and technical assistance or study.
With these efforts, the MinDA hopes to realize a positive effect through the adoption of their projects by other places nearby to further the growth of the economy of the province.
“Gusto namin ang effect na mayroon kang makita dito na isang activity sa TaraKa, pwede niyang iinfluence iyong other municipalities na magkakalapit,” said Dagala.
[The effect that we want is when you see activity, say in TaraKa, you can influence other neighboring municipalities to do the same.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
