MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Residents of Brgy. Lumbatan in the municipality of Ditsa-an Ramain expressed their gratefulness as they were given the timely opportunity to go through a financial literacy training provided by the Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) Philippines to their community Wednesday, June 22.

Participant Shiela Acibar Saripada shared that she learned lessons on how to establish businesses.

She stated that this was a big help to her and her family considering she planned on having her sari-sari store.

Another participant Hadja Sittie Wahida Lumangco stressed that the Islamic Relief was a timely aid for residents like her who were drastically affected by the 2017 Marawi siege followed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She detailed that the IRW Philippines taught her how to manage her finances and make her planned business prosper.

“Napakalaking tulong sa pamilya, especially na ako ay single parent. Kung masuccessful ang business na ibibigay sa amin, makakatulong sa amin financially. Maraming maraming salamat dahil marami kayong natutulungan lalo na dito sa Philippines, particularly Marawi City, and the victims of Marawi siege and COVID-19 [pandemic],” said Lumangco.

[This is a big help to our family, especially that I am a single parent. If our business is successful, it will financially help us. Thank you so much because you helped a lot here in the Philippines, particularly Marawi City, and the victims of the Marawi siege and COVID-19 [pandemic].]

For his part, participant Abdul Nashreen Malawani shared that he had a business before but went bankrupt due to the 2017 firefight in Marawi.

As such, he attested that the IRW Philippines’ effort is an immense aid to them, particularly to those who are identified as jobless, and with senior citizens in their populace left with nothing to do at home. Malawani hoped that the organization can still help a lot, especially those who do not livelihood.

Participant Fahad Magarang thanked the IRW as well for conducting the financial literacy training which he saw as relevant in their current situation as they have been facing struggles caused by the siege and COVID-19 pandemic.

He said considering that not all are aware of what to do, they were trained on how to start a business and financial management.

“Sana ang Islamic Relief ay hindi magsawang magbigay suporta sa mga mamamayan natin sa Lanao del Sur o anumang parte ng Pilipinas for both Christians and Muslims,” said Magarang.

[I hope the Islamic Relief will not get weary of giving support to residents here in Lanao del Sur or any part of the Philippines for both Christians and Muslims.]

Participant Monaoray Monid was likewise delighted to attend the training of the IRW Philippines knowing she would be able to have an opportunity to have an experience having a business.

With the help of the organization, she planned on venturing into the dressmaking business.

Currently, at least 100 households have already undergone the financial management training of the IRW Philippines and organizers will then see to it that the remaining 500 households will be accommodated within June 2022 to achieve their target of a total of 600 households.

Following this training, the organization will accordingly release the cash grant to start the proposed businesses of its beneficiaries. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
