IPHO Chief Dr. Alinader Minalang shared that the latest COVID-19 recovery index has shown a consistent decline in new infections in the Philippines even after its borders were opened to international nations.
He stated that Lanao del Sur province in particular has maintained its tally of zero active cases for almost three weeks already which, accordingly, is a manifestation of the continuing collective efforts of the government in managing the pandemic in the province.
Notwithstanding this record, Minalang firmly stressed that people should still be wary of the ongoing crisis.
“Despite nag-open tayo sa ating mga border [we have already opened our borders], we are able to maintain this low status of COVID-19 precisely because of our more strengthened response and surveillance because it is very important that we have to monitor the cases in all the different provinces and cities in the Philippines. However, we shall not be complacent. We should always keep our guards up as we are still under Alert Level 2,” he said.
Such was strongly affirmed by IPHO Technical Services Chief Dr. Apasrah Macumbal-Mapupuno as she emphasized the need to still be vaccinated despite having good news about the active cases recently.
“This is not the time to be complacent. We cannot say for sure that it is fine that we do not get the vaccine kahit wala ng cases ngayon because the truth is people can still get infected. The COVID-19 is still very much around and we can still infect others,” she said.
The IPHO chief has earlier bared that the province remains to be under Alert Level 2 due to its low vaccination turnout which is majorly caused by hesitancy among residents. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
