2022 National Coop Month celeb crusades for lasting peace in Marawi, Lanao Sur Published on: October 24, 2022 By Claire Gigje

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Nearly 50 cooperatives coming from the city and the province of Lanao del Sur converged here to celebrate this year's National Cooperative Month organized by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).

With this observance also spearheaded in time with the commemoration of the liberation of the locality, participating cooperative leaders and members campaigned for lasting peace by advocating for unity and harmony, a noble act that still befit the theme “KooPinas: Nagkakaisang Lakas Para sa Makabuluhan at Sama-samang Pag-unlad” .

CDA Asec. Datu Pendatun Disimban stressed that the theme summarized the power of oneness in beating the impacts of adversities encountered by society, especially in the past years when the siege in 2017 happened and then trailed by a global health crisis in 2019.

“Ito ay upang ipakita sa mga mamamayan ng Marawi na nandito kami nagkakaisa at nananawagan ng pangmatagalang kapayapaan para sa ating lugar na Marawi at Lanao del Sur. Pinapakita rin namin ang pagkakaisa ng mga lider ng coops at gobyerno sa pagtugon sa mga problemang kinakaharap natin sa lipunan,” he said.

[This is to show the citizenry of Marawi that we are here unified and calling for lasting peace for our place that is Marawi and Lanao del Sur. We also show the unity of the leaders of our coops and government in addressing the problems faced by our society.]

CDA Chairman Joseph Encabo, who attended the event, further emphasized that they are one in appealing, embracing and praying for peace in the city.

He expounded that peace starts in every individual and this is passed on to their fellowmen that constitute the whole community, including the cooperatives

Encabo stated that the cooperatives uphold the true meaning of peace as they do not only aim for social justice, equity and economic development but the discipline as well that allows everyone to grasp the essence of their existence.

He added that members of the sector support, love and respect one another which leads to the fulfillment of their goals.

“Kapag tinutulungan natin economically ang ating ating mga kapwa miyembro ng kooperatiba at nakikita natin ang pag-asenso ng kanyang pamilya, sarili at komunidad, iyan ang isang diwa ng kapayapaan,” said Encabo.

[If we can economically help our fellow members of the cooperative and we see the progress in their family, self and community, that is the spirit of peace.]

During the celebration of National Cooperative Month, cooperatives joined a caravan that toured the city proper here. CDA officials likewise released doves in the air to symbolize their strengthened desire of attaining tranquility. This was then followed by a summit wherein plans and programs were introduced for the betterment of cooperatives in the entire province. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
