BARMM solon to refile bill embracing women empowerment

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Member of Parliament Lawyer Laisa Masuhud Alamia of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) is strengthening the empowerment of the women sector as she pronounced her aim of refiling the Women’s Caucus Bill.

She underscored that it is necessary for them to push for legislation highlighting the existence of women both in the government and the community.

“Our work must have an appreciation of existing institutions that are essential in fulfilling the women’s agenda in the regional government while continuing to represent the genuine interest of the Bangsamoro women and opening up spaces for them to meaningfully participate,” said Alamia.

The parliament member detailed that she first filed this bill in 2020 with the unanimous support of women legislators in the first Bangsamoro Parliament.

She stated that at that time, this was the only bill under the Women Legislative Portfolio of the BTA.

Alamia stressed that the Women’s Caucus Bill would center women’s issues and concerns while encouraging lawmakers to work together in developing and sharpening women’s agenda and helping them arrive at a political consensus.

She then saw this proposed act as a help for the government to gain meaningful progress for women’s issues, gender equality and gender justice, thus, her perseverance in raising this once again before their parliament.

“As we begin a new term as members of the Bangsamoro parliament, I intend to refile the Women’s Caucus Bill with hopes that it will pass with relative ease in a parliament united in advocating for the Bangsamoro people as one BTA,” said Alamia. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
