MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Remembering the nobility and bravery of the soldiers who sacrificed much during the warfare in 2017 in exchange for the liberation of the Islamic City here, the Marawi Sultanate League (MSL) emphasized that such fallen heroes did not come as conquerors who were after of their place, rather, they came as liberators who freed their locality from the grip of the ISIS-inspired Maute terrorist group.
MSL Chairman Sultan Nasser Sampaco underlined that the soldiers who fought during the firefight five years ago left their families, homes and lives not for the recognition and fame to be bestowed upon them as they battled, instead, to protect the city here from terrorism.
“We honor all those who let us never know how much they will be missed. Their final act was to fight the forces of the wicked with the effort to bring liberty to an oppressed city. Many as they were battling, they held in their hearts the victory however long and hard the road may be for without victory, there is no liberty,” he said.
As Sampaco honored members of the government troops, he likewise conveyed to the people in the city the need to repay them through treasuring the development and peace which were the things dearly safeguarded by the heroes years back.
“To maintain our way of life, we owe it to them to finish the task for which the better lives bring in peace, freedom and liberty to a troubled place, Marawi City,” he said.
Apart from the soldiers, the MSL has also been paying tribute to every stakeholder partner outside of their city who opted to be associated with their aspirations for liberty as the people remained steadfast in their resolve and determination to gain freedom.
He stated that their unstained moral support was the constant source of inspiration for their valiant soldiers and internally displaced persons as they stood by the city and infused better confidence in those on the frontline of the rehabilitation.
Sampaco underscored that as of the moment, they are now growing in the new era with all the significant structures standing as far as their eyes can meet, the unstained smile of their populace, and the approval and passage of Marawi Siege Victims Compensation Act of 2022 which would be a huge boost to the recovery efforts here.
With this, he positively pronounced his anticipation that the city would be able to heal in no time.
