Brawner hails 55th Army Engineers' significant contribution to Marawi rehab

As the 55th Engineer Brigade celebrates its 24th anniversary, the Commanding General of the Philippine Army (CGPA) lauded the significant contribution of the unit in the rehabilitation efforts for Marawi City

"I saw for myself the exemplary work the Engineer Brigade did during the Marawi siege and during the rehabilitation phase. Hanggang ngayon, ang 55th Engineer Brigade is highly involved in the rehabilitation of Marawi City and other areas in its areas of responsibility," said LtGen. Romeo Brawner Jr. during the anniversary celebration Thursday, Oct. 13.

The 55th Engineer Brigade played a big role in the clearing of unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices left after the five-month firefight between the ISIS-inspired Maute group and government forces.

The unit and its equipment were also utilized during the clearing of rubbles and debris as well as in the demolition of buildings in the city.

Military engineers also provided manpower support to government agencies in the transportation of their assistance to the city as well as in the construction of temporary and permanent shelters.

During the anniversary celebration, Brawner awarded the unit's personnel and best battalions for going above and beyond their line of duty to provide quality service to the people in its area of operations.

He also led the awarding of plaques to the civilian stakeholders and partners of the 55th Engineer Brigade.

In his keynote message, the CGPA expressed gratitude to the civilian stakeholders for supporting the Brigade in all its endeavors which are geared toward army transformation and achieving inclusive peace and development.

Brawner also announced that the Brigade was chosen to be converted into a combat engineer regiment soon in line with the efforts of modernizing the Philippine Army and addressing threats coming outside the country. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
