Lanao Sur townsmen glad for biz start-up from Islamic Relief

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Villagers of the municipality of Ditsa-an Ramain in the province of Lanao del Sur were elated to obtain start-up capital from the Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) Philippines to realize their desired businesses.

Under the Sustaining Transformative and Resilient Initiative for Vulnerable Communities (STRIVEC) in Ranao Philippines Program of the organization with the funding of IRW-Canada, six self-help groups (SHGs) consisting of ten members received P50,000-cash grant.

Beneficiary Lahmoden Naga expressed his happiness as his group was excited to use the amount to establish their rice trading.

“Mabuti ito kasi para sa amin na walang kakayahan [na magsimula ng negosyo], malaking bagay na ito. Nagpapasalamat kami kasi binigyan niyo kami ng tulong,” he said.

[This is good because for us who do not have the capability [to start our business], this is a big help. We are thankful because you gave us help.]

Cairodin Datumanong who also benefited from the program attested to the prior testimony, highlighting that the initiative was indeed a great support for needing Filipinos in his town.

Another beneficiary Saida Daroma Kiram mentioned that for an Arabic teacher like her who does not have a permanent source of income, the IRW-Philippine’s move was significant for this would aid them financially.

“Sobrang saya namin kasi kahit papaano ay may puhunan na kami. Maraming salamat sa Islamic Relief dahil marami na silang natulungan katulad naming mga Arabic teacher na walang permanent na nakukunan ng cash kasi wala kaming salary. Ipupursige namin ang paglago nito,” she said.

[We are very happy because we already have capital. Thank you so much to Islamic Relief because they have helped a lot like us Arabic teachers who do not have a permanent source of cash because we do not have a salary. We will pursue the progress of this.]

Rohaida Sarip likewise affirmed the preceding statement as she stressed that this depicted that the organization has given them a chance to uplift their lives.

Beneficiary Jhamaira Berua, on the other hand, was delighted and positive that this effort would expand to cover more residents of Lanao del Sur province.

“Ang saya namin kasi malaking tulong na rin itong [cash grant] sa grupo namin. Makakapagstart na kami ng kahit kaunting kabuhayan. Maraming salamat sa mga bumubuo sa Islamic Relief. Sana mas marami pa kayong matulungan na katulad namin na mga mahihirap,” she said.

We are happy because this [cash grant] is already a big help to our group. We can already start our small business. Thank you so much to those who compose the Islamic Relief. I hope you can help more poor people like us.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
