Islamic City of Marawi (2 August) -- The Secretary of the Department of Health in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOH-ARMM) aired support to the inclusion of sex education in the school curriculum.
Dr. Kadil Sinolinding Jr., in a press conference held recently in this city, said the best way to protect the welfare of the children is to give them proper sex education.
"Whether we like it or not, our children will eventually learn about sex and their sexuality and it would be better if they will learn it in their classrooms, monitored by their teachers, rather than learning it from the internet, street or television," he stressed.
He also urged critics to give the plan a chance saying that the module is being tested, scrutinized and evaluated by experts not only on the educational side but also on the religious aspect.
On the aspect of health, Sinolinding said they have made consultations with Muslim religious leaders.
"They do not oppose provided it will not promote any business other than to educate the children on the parts and purpose of their bodies and how to take care of their bodies," the Secretary further said.
Sinolinding added that their department will always uphold programs that promote hygiene, sanitation and good health practices that is also consistent with Islamic religious practices.
