Islamic City of Marawi (08 August) --- The Philippine National Police in Lanao del Sur was lauded for quick action in rescuing passengers of a motorized banca about to capsize due to big waves last August 6.
Police Superintendent Cosanie M. Derogongan, officer-in-charge of the police provincial office said the boat, with about 50 passengers, left the port in Marawi City going to Bayang town around 11:20 in the morning when it encountered big waves that caused a hole in its front portion.
The boat operator, however, managed to bring the boat near the lakeshore without sinking, he added.
Derogongan said joint elements of Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) and the Marantao Municipal Police Station quickly rendered assistance to the passengers by bringing them safely to the lakeshore.
The police operatives also contacted the immediate families of the passengers, he further said.
Because of the quick response, no casualty was reported during the incident.
