Islamic City of Marawi (2 August) -- The Lanao del Sur Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) once again reiterated the 4S strategy to fight dengue.
Dr. Alinader Minalang, IPHO chief, emphasized the 4S strategy during the launching of the environmental and health advocacy campaign dubbed as "Never On Waste-Drive Against Dengue" or the NOW DAD Program.
According to him, the 4S strategy against dengue stands for 'Search and Destroy' the possible breeding places of dengue-causing mosquitoes; 'Self-Protection Measures' such as wearing of long-sleeve shirts and using mosquito repellants; 'Seeking Early Consultation' when symptoms come-up; and 'Say No to Indiscriminate Fogging'.
Minalang, however, stressed that fogging is only a temporary measure of fighting dengue.
He said it is also costly and the chemicals used in the operation could likewise affect people's health.
IPHO data showed that there had been about 400 dengue cases in the province with two (2) deaths reported.
Despite the high dengue cases, Minalang is confident that through collaborative efforts, the province can contain dengue and prevent its people from further getting this dreaded disease.
Furthermore, the health secretary of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao also appealed to the public to help the IPHO as well as the city and provincial government fight dengue.
During his visit in the province, Dr. Kadil Sinolinding Jr. said the human resource through cooperation and collaboration from the different line agencies and stakeholders is needed to effectively control and eradicate dengue in the whole province.
"Since health belongs to everybody, all of you must participate because dengue affects not only you but also your family and the community you belong to," the health secretary emphasized.
He said with concerted efforts by the people of this province, many of the health problems here can be solve even without pouring a lot of resources.
