Islamic City of Marawi (2 August) -- The Health Department of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOH-ARMM) is backing the stand of the national DOH on reproductive health.
In a press conference held recently in this city, DOH-ARMM Secretary Dr. Kadil Sinolinding Jr. said his department will always support programs that preserve the health and promote the welfare of the people.
"Reproductive health as well as family planning is designed to protect women and mothers. Both are not designed to make people avail of abortion but to promote planned pregnancy," he said.
"It will provide them information about taking care of their reproductive health and help them in making sound decision," he further said.
Furthermore, Sinolinding cited that over population and inability of the people to access the basic services that the government can provide are two of the factors of poverty.
"If there are too many people who wanted to access these basic services, it may displace others," he added.
"We will always promote the family planning program that is designed for the improvement and betterment of the family," he stressed.
The Secretary also disclosed that they have conducted consultations with different sectors especially Muslim religious leaders and he said they will support as long it will not violate the teachings of the Qur'an.
