Islamic City of Marawi (31 August) -- Moro youth groups here underscored the importance of derstanding the Moro history through a week-long celebration dubbed as the Moro Consciousness Week.
With the theme, "Celebrate Centuries of Moro Consciousness and Identity," the celebration was highlighted by photo exhibits where more than 400 documentary photos captured in situ during the closing days of the Spanish colonialism and the beginning of the American occupation of the Bangsamoro homeland.
The photo exhibits were held at the Mindanao State University from August 25-26 and downtown Marawi, August 27-29.
The historical photos were from the researches and compilations of Amir Hussein D. Alonto and history student Ruhollah J. Alonto sourced from Prof. Robert Fulton, American military archives, other independent foreign historians and the US Library of Congress.
In its rationale, the organizers said that knowing the past not only reinforces their identity as a people but it also capacitates them to forge a future ahead that guarantees their Islamic way of life, their security and their freedom from all forms of domination and oppression.
The organizers said the photo exhibits will be replicated in other parts of Mindanao after the Ramadhan and similar documentary photos are made available by other sources
