MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The halal production here is soon to be bolstered following the establishment of an innovation center by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-12.
DOST-12 South Cotabato Provincial Director and Bangon Marawi Project Coordinator Dr. Mahdali Rauf Alonto shared in an episode of Mashuara sa Radyo Pilipinas Monday, October 11, that the department is constructing the Halal Global Food Innovation Center in Brgy. Sagonsongan to develop the production of halal food in the city, making it competitive up to the international market.
“Iyong global halal food innovation hub, ang intended targets ay iyong lahat na food industries and producers natin. Ang ginagawa sa hub na iyan ay we intend to improve the products of our food industry so that they can be competitive not only in the local market but they can level in the international market,” he said.

Alonto further bared that part of the initiative is also the foundation of a halal laboratory in which the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) has already committed its full support for the creation of such seeing its significance in leading the biggest market of halal products.
With the laid efforts, the DOST-12 stressed the mandate of the government to establishments through its creation of relevant laws to upgrade and update the halal industry of the country to enter the international market which is noted to have been currently hitting USD3 trillion just with such an industry alone.
Alonto emphasized that only if the Philippines could make at least 3% of the generated USD3 trillion, it would have been one of the prosperous countries in the world.
As such, he urged businesses to champion halal to go into the international market and own the whole market even at the local level.
“If you want the whole market, the 100% market, you deal on halal para kahit iyong hindi halal ay pupunta pa rin sa inyo pero [so that even those that are not halal will still go to you but] if you are dealing with non-halal, only non-halal will patronize your establishments,” he said.
