Gandamra cites support of nat'l gov't, humanitarian partners to rebuild Marawi

City Mayor Majul Gandamra cites during the Network Briefing News the support being provided by the national government and humanitarian partners to rebuild the Marawi City.

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--City Mayor Majul Gandamra cited the support being provided by the national government and humanitarian partners to rebuild the city destroyed by the five-month siege in 2017.

"We are very fortunate for the support of the different sectors of our society especially the national government, and even humanitarian donors ay tumutulong din sa [are also helping]  Marawi and we will take it an opportunity to move on," he said during the Network Briefing News with Communications Secretary Andanar Friday, October 8.

The mayor stressed that the city government has a strong relationship with the different government agencies tasked to implement the different interventions to rehabilitate the city.

"Alam po natin na ang Marawi City ay hindi ganon kayaman na syudad  but because of the support of the national government through the different line agencies ay nakikita natin yung interventions na talagang napapakinabangan ng ating mga constituents," he said.

[We know that Marawi City is not a rich city but because of the support of the national government through the different line agencies we see that the interventions really benefit our constituents.]

Gandamra said some residents who lost their homes and were living in the danger zones were already given permanent shelters.

In July of this year, 120 units of permanent housing in Darussalam Village in Barangay Dulay Proper and 50 housing units in Pamayandeg sa Ranaw Residences in Dansalan Village in Barangay Mipantao Gadongan were awarded to displaced families.

The houses were built by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) using donations from the government of Japan while the Social Housing Finance Corporation and the National Housing Authority developed the land, respectively.

In February of this year, 109 permanent houses in Hadiya Village in Barangay Dulay West were also turned over to displaced families.

Gandamra further noted that livelihood assistance was also provided to internally displaced persons by the national government and other partner organizations.

The city government also constructed a two-building market beside the city's integrated terminal located outside the most affected area (MAA) to help the business sector recover.  The construction of Grand Padian Market with an ice plant inside MAA is also nearing completion.

"Gusto natin na [we want that] after this total reconstruction and rehabilitation, ang Marawi City ay maging  [will become the] central business district of not only Lanao del Sur but as well as other nearby cities and municipalities of the region [BARMM]," he further said,

With the establishment of different infrastructures under the comprehensive rehabilitation and reconstruction program for Marawi City, Gandamra is optimistic that Marawi residents will be encouraged to invest in the city. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
