MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--Pursuing the mandate of putting up telecommunication and internet especially in the most affected area (MAA) here, a digital hub will soon rise in the city following the ceremonial groundbreaking spearheaded by the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and the local government Friday, October 15, to welcome its construction and extend the existing integrated government network (GovNet) in the city through fiber optic and wireless communication.

DICT - Lanao del Sur Provincial Director Engr. Jaron Arab said that the Digital Transformation Center (DTC) and National Operation Center (NOC) all amounting to P72 million funded by the TFBM and the National Housing Authority (NHA) will soon rise in a 600-square meter land area in the city’s MAA to bridge the realization of reliable and fast internet connectivity for municipal halls and other public offices.  A tower will be erected in an elevated area to expand its signal coverage.

He said the building will likewise serve as a training center catering to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other citizens from the province of Lanao del Sur who want to undergo training, such as digital literacy training, and free utilization of information and communications technology (ICT) facilities.

DICT Mindanao Cluster 3 (MC3) Regional Director Alimbzar Asum highlighted that through the DICT projects, government offices are provided their own internet connection to advance its service to the citizens.

“Nabigyan ng internet connection ang opisina [ng gobyerno] dahil sa DICT projects. Hindi na aasa sa private telco. Ngayon, maging sufficient [ang internet connectivity]. Makakaasa kayo na lahat ng mga opisina [ng gobyerno] ay magkakaroon ng internet connectivity at free wifi,” he said.

Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary and TFBM Chairperson Eduardo Del Rosario then affirmed the DICT’s efforts of putting up internet connection in the city as he committed his support to the department’s infrastructure project.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Majul Gandamra stressed that the city indeed needs an innovation hub for the betterment of the connectivity of his constituents.

“Ang Marawi City ay napakailangan ang communication facility and with the establishment of this infrastructure ay sigurado tayo na sa pagbangon ng Marawi ay kasama natin ang DICT,” he said in his message of support.
