MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur(PIA)--Addressing the water supply concerns of residents in Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter here, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-12 officially turned over Wednesday, October 6, a water system to Area 8 of the transitory shelter to provide water to households in the area.
DOST-12 Regional Director Engr. Sammy Malawan said this effort which was initiated by former Regional Director Zenaida Hadji Raof Laidan manifested the Department’s commitment to aid the city until it fully recovers and stands back again.
“This is the turning point wherein maipakita natin ang continuous support ng DOST-12 dito sa Marawi. Malayo na kami kay Region 12 kami pero science and technology can cross borders, especially so na ang pinupuntahan natin ay kadugo at kapatid natin,” he said in his speech.
[This is the turning point wherein we can show the continuous support of the DOST-12 here in Marawi. We are already far because we are in Region 12 but science and technology can cross borders, especially so that what we are coming here is for our own blood, and brothers and sisters.]
Malawan further emphasized that the water project was implemented as they recognized its significance to every individual, specifically to the residents in the benefitting temporary shelter who experienced no proper water supply for roughly three years already since their relocation.
DOST-12 South Cotabato Provincial Director and Bangon Marawi Project Coordinator Dr. Mahdali Rauf Alonto shared that the project which is under the support program to Marawi Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery through Science, Technology and Innovation can benefit at least 200 households. While the Area 8 of Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter only has 100 households, he said more individuals from different areas can come by to fetch water from it.
He also added that more water systems are yet to be completed for additional supply of water in the city.
“Matagal na pinag-isipan kung ano ang pwedeng isuporta sa Sagonsongan. It was conceived that the main solution that can be given to your primary issue is the provision of a water system. The water system consists of four, isa iyan [sa Sector 8]. Pangalawa, doon sa motor pool area. Pangatlo, doon sa Brgy. Patani at pang-apat sa Area 5 ng Sagosongan,” said Alonto.
