MARAWI CITY, October 8--To ensure the recovery of the city from the five-month siege years ago, the national government is until now continuing its effort to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs) here, especially affected businesses and entrepreneurs.

City Mayor Majul Gandamra shared during the Network Briefing News Friday, October 8, that currently the local government is still strongly connected with different national line agencies tasked to implement programs of the government.

He stressed that livelihood interventions of the national government are up until now carried out alongside the city government as visibly manifested in various construction of structures.

“Ang livelihood assistance ay patuloy na ginagawa ng ating national government and even the local government is also helping. In fact, makikita natin na mayroon tayong ipinapatayo na livelihood infrastructures,” said Gandamra.

The local chief executive further bared that the city, in close partnership with some government instrumentalities, is erecting a big market with two buildings outside the most affected area (MAA) which is considered on top of the rehabilitation projects, apart from the reconstruction inside the ground zero.

He highlighted that the project, which is also seen to have a transport terminal, can accommodate the displaced business sector as affected entrepreneurs will be mainly relocated here.

Gandamra believed that this initiative can help bring betterment to the city’s economy as it is still striving to stand once again.

With this, the mayor thanked the national government and all its partner agencies for delivering efforts to the city which have been beneficial to the citizens ever since.

“Alam natin na ang Marawi City hindi ganoon kayaman na syudad but because of the support of the national government through the different line agencies ay nakikita natin ang interventions na talagang napapakinabangan ng ating constituents,” said Gandamra.
