MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Following the turnover of the completed water system in Area 8 of Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter here, the city government and benefitting residents conveyed their appreciation to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-12 for its initiative of answering their call for water supply through the provision of water system Wednesday, October 6.
“My heart swells with gratitude to see good samaritans for continuously extending a helping hand to the people of Marawi City. Slowly, we are now starting to stand on our own feet again, leaving our past behind us but bringing with us the lessons that we have garnered in order to face a new tomorrow. This is attributed to the unending support of our national government, as well as the non-government agencies, such as the Department of Science and Technology,” said Mayor Majul Gandamra in his message read by his Chief of Staff Dr. Emelda Gandamra-Taib.
The local chief executive stressed that without the help of partner government agencies and private organizations, the city would not have been able to slowly get back from the siege.
Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter Area 8 President Anna Adiong Didaagun also thanked DOST-12 as the water system freed them from buying their water supply.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa DOST-12. Nakatubig kami dito sa Area 8 dahil lang sa kanila. Nakakatulong sa maraming tao. Walang nagkakasakit dito kasi malinis ang tubig… Sana madadagdagan pa ang tubig na lahat ng areas makakakuha ng tubig,” she said.
[We are thanking the DOST-12. We already have water here in Area 8 because of them. It helps a lot of people. No one gets sick because the water is clean… I hope they will add more water so that all areas will get water.]
Meanwhile, Samiah Alawi, a resident of the same area, maintained that if it were not for the provided water system, households would not be able to hustle in their daily lives as even daily chores would be difficult to carry out.
“Maraming salamat sa lahat ng tulong sa amin dito sa temporary shelter. Nagpapasalamat kami sa ibinigay niyong tulong gaya ng tubig. Kung wala iyang tubig, wala ding magagamit ang karamihan dito,” she said.
