MARAWI CITY (PIA)--As academic institutions look forward to sustain their exemplary delivery of education, various schools here and in the province of Lanao del Sur received Wednesday, October 6, a total of 293 sets of the digital library coined Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-12.
DOST-12 Regional Director Engr. Sammy Malawan said STARBOOKS was already implemented under the science and technology livelihood project in 2018 wherein several institutions had benefitted.
Now, the department is expanding the initiative as part of the support program to Marawi Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery through Science, Technology and Innovation to provide easy access to research and technology.
“With these Starbooks, our Filipino researchers, students and even entrepreneurs can access information. It is a digital library. This is very informative and important,” said Malawan.
Recipient schools delivered their appreciation for the greatly beneficial innovation, especially in the comeback of face-to-face classes.
Dr. Elin Anisha Lapal - Guro, Director of the Mindanao State University (MSU) - Main Campus Library, said DOST-12 has given them motivation apart from the STARBOOKS.
“More than the STARBOOKS that you are giving us, you have given us inspiration and a role model to follow in being civil servants. You bring us STARBOOKS but for us, you gave us the stars. Maraming salamat [Thank you],” she said upon receiving 35 STARBOOKS sets for the libraries of different colleges and departments of the MSU-Main Campus.
Dr. Anna Zenaida Unte Alonto, Marawi City Schools Division Superintendent, also conveyed how lucky her division is for the implemented project of the DOST-12 wherein she also got their share as part of the 258 kiosks apportioned for the city and Lanao del Sur schools.
She recalled that such a project was advocated at the height of the siege a few years ago when all inter-agency members of Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) were contemplating how to aid the displaced families, learners and teachers.
With this, Alonto committed to back the bolstering of education in the city while appealing for continuous support from partners to sustain the learning of the students transitioning from transitory to permanent schools.
“We pledge our commitment to alleviate more into higher quality the delivery of education in the City Schools Division of Marawi. Kindly do not tire helping the City Schools Division of Marawi because until we transition our last child from the temporary learning school in Sagonsongan to our permanent regular Marawi schools in ground zero, our education is not normal and we still need help to pursue the continuity of education,” said Alonto.
Meanwhile, Malawan called on the recipient institutions to keep their relationship with the DOST so that their projects may be effectively implemented.
“We, therefore, need your utmost cooperation to fully operationalize the facilities that we have able to help others, especially these Starbooks,” he said. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
