22 Marawi 'food riders' benefit from SIGLA program

Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT) Director General Rosslaini J. Alonto-Sinarimbo and MTIT Provincial Director Mohammad Aquil A. Mamainte lead the handover of insulated bags with a raincoat and tumbler to 22 food riders in Marawi City as part of the Ministry's support to the food and transportation sector under its Support to Income Generation of Local Ambulant Entrepreneurs (SIGLA) program. MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Some 22 'food riders' here in the city are now aided to maintain the quality of their deliveries after receiving insulated bags with raincoats and tumblers from the Bangsamoro government.

The distribution was led by Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT) Director General Rosslaini J. Alonto-Sinarimbo and MTIT Provincial Director Mohammad Aquil A. Mamainte Monday, August 15.

Sinarimbo said the provision of insulated bags is part of the MTIT's Support to Income Generation of Local Ambulant Entrepreneurs (SIGLA) program which aims to help entrepreneurs, especially those impacted by the lockdowns, enhance their source of income.

She cited that one of the sectors that suffered in 2020 due to lockdowns was food and transportation thereby reducing their contribution to the economy. The assistance, she said, is the response of the Ministry to help the sector recover from the adverse impact of the pandemic.

"Ang inisip natin para masustain yung livelihood nila at makabawi ay bibigyan natin sila ng insulated bag na meron sa loob na raincoat at tumbler because kailangang magdeliver sila at may malagyan sila na ma-assure nila na yung food na dinedeliver nila or parcel na dinedeliver nila is safe at maprepreserve yung init o lamig ng pagkain," said Sinarimbo.

[What we thought in order to sustain their livelihood and recover is that we will give them an insulated bag with a raincoat and tumbler inside because they have to deliver and put it in a container that will ensure that the food they deliver or the parcel they deliver is safe and the heat or coldness of the food is preserved.]

Sinarimbo further said that the handover of insulated bags is in partnership with the Office of Member of Parliament (MP) Atty. Rasol Mitmug Jr. under his Transitional Development Impact Fund.

She added that the beneficiaries were identified by the office of MP Mitmug.

Meanwhile, recipients expressed their gratitude for the program saying the insulated bags will help them maintain the quality of the food they deliver while the raincoat will protect them from the rain.

"Makakatulong po yan ng malaki kasi dito po sa atin sa Lanao del Sur, lalong-lalo na dito sa Marawi, kadalasan every hapon umuulan. Kailangan talaga namin yung raincoat at yung tumbler na pagkailangan mong uminom kasi mainit. Nakakatulong talaga lalo na yung box kasi matibay siya," said rider Abubacar Sangcopan of Keri Express Marawi.

[This is a big help because here in Lanao del Sur, especially here in Marawi, it usually rains every afternoon. We really need the raincoat and the tumbler when you need to drink because it's hot. This is helpful, especially the box which is durable.] (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
