MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--With the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) summit successfully conducted by the international non-government organization World Vision Philippines, officials of barangays here stood by their perspective of seeing the activity significant and timely in their pursuit of guarding the well-being of children in their respective places.
Caloocan West Barangay Secretary Yahya Ali Abato stressed that the summit could help them encourage strong guidance for children so that they might not lean on the wrong path due to the negative effects brought about by the advent of technology and other circumstances.
“Itong programang ito ay napakaganda at nakakatulong sa mga barangay dahil ang mga kabataan natin sa ngayon ay magkakaiba ang pinupuntahan… Ang pinakaimportante na maprevent natin ang mga ganyang klaseng bagay para makontrol natin ang mga bata na doon sila mapunta sa magagandang asal at formal education,” he said.
[This program is wonderful and helpful to barangays because our children now go different ways… What is important is we can prevent this kind of thing so that we can control the children and that they may be led to good conduct and formal education.]
Abato added that the summit could also aid the barangays in enforcing their programs, considering that the local government has limits and cannot cater at all times to all their requests
With this, he looked forward to this initiative being maintained.
“This ay napakaganda. Sana tulungan, palawakin at palakasin ang programang ito,” said Abato.
[This is wonderful. I hope this program can be supported, widened and made stronger.]
The barangay secretary shared that they have already established their own BCPC wherein they back the education of children in madrasah, however, they still desired more effort to bolster their council.

Rapasun Barangay Chairwoman Asniah Limbona, on the other hand, magnified the BCPC summit as vital, citing that its output could be applied by barangays in their own undertaking for child protection.
She stated that this was the first time she was able to attend such an event.
“Nalaman namin kung ano ang mga kailangan gawin ng barangay sa mga kabataan at ano ang maitutulong namin sa kanila… Kailangan talaga ng ganitong activity kaya laking pasalamat talaga namin sa World Vision kasi nagkaroon ng ganito,” said Limbona.
[We learned what barangays should do for the children and how we can be of help to them… We really need this kind of activity, that is why we are very thankful to World Vision because we have this.]
The barangay chairwoman explained that they likewise have BCPC that addresses issues concerning violence against women and children but like other villages in the city, they long as well for additional support from other partners. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
