MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--As the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) Philippines ended its project for the city, Mayor Majul Gandamra underscored that the organization has played a vital role in making the rehabilitation program here be led to fruition.
The UN-Habitat has provided livelihood and built 1,000 permanent houses for the displaced persons brought about by the 2017 firefight, particularly those once living along the Agus River and Lake Lanao.
Gandamra stressed that the handing over of shelters intended for the internally displaced persons meant giving a full hope of rebuilding lives that have fallen during the siege.
“Hindi lang pagbibigay ng pabahay kung hindi iyon mismong pagrebuild ng kung anumang nasirang pamumuhay because of the siege. Napakalaking tulong ng UN-Habitat together with other partners,” he said as he emphasized that without the organization and its stakeholders, the recovery would have been slow.
[They did not only give houses but it was specifically the rebuilding of livelihood destroyed because of the siege. The UN-Habitat together with its partners had helped a lot.]
Gandamra said the concluded project of the UN-Habitat was a manifestation of the nearing completion of the different rehabilitation programs for the affected residents and soon, they would be able to witness altogether how the city would rise and become a place beaming with hope and opportunity for its people.
As such, he conveyed his most profound thanks to the organization as he stated that if ever it would visit again, it would not be only him but also the whole community that would welcome the organization as it has become an instrument to achieve the desired restoration.
“Maraming salamat sa inyong walang kupas na pagsuporta sa pagbangon ng Marawi. Hindi makukompleto ang programang ito king hindi dahil sa inyong strong commitment upang pagsilbihan ang mga residente ng Marawi City. Nakakasiguro akong magkakaroon tayo ng maraming partnership sa hinaharap,” said Gandamra.
[Thank you so much for your unwavering support for the recovery of Marawi. This program would not have been completed if it were not for your strong commitment to serve the residents of Marawi City. Rest assured that we will have lots of partnerships in the future.]
Highlighting the 1,000 houses built by the UN-Habitat, the mayor told the beneficiaries to use them as homes that would mark the beginning of their comeback from the 2017 siege.
He also guaranteed the residents that despite witnessing the departure of one of their longtime partners in the rehabilitation program, the local government would keep on implementing its programs for the public so that the well-being of everyone would be appropriately addressed.
“Makakasiguro kayo na bagama’t aalis na ang UN-Habitat at ibang partners sa ating puder, ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Marawi City ay patuloy na magbibigay sa inyo ng serbisyo upang matulungan kayo sa inyong mga pangangailangan… Sana ipagpatuloy niyo ang inyong suporta sa amin para nang sa ganoon ay magkaroon kami ng sustainable development, and peace and security dito sa lungsod ng Marawi,” said Gandamra.
[Rest assured that although the UN-Habitat and some of the partners have left us, the local government of Marawi City will continue rendering services to help you in your needs… I hope you also continue your support for us so that we will be able to achieve sustainable development, and pace and security here in the City of Marawi.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
