MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Witnessing the unrelenting perseverance exerted especially for their welfare, internally displaced persons (IDPs) here honored the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) Philippines and its project dubbed "Rebuilding Marawi Shelter and Livelihood."
Pamayandeg sa Ranao Residences at Dansalan Homeowners Association (HOA) President Najma Daromimbang stressed that the success of the project that gave them new homes was realized because of the untiring commitment and hard work of the organization, making her thankful to the latter.
She stressed that what they can exchange for this effort would be them treasuring the houses, and making their lives more productive so that when the organization would visit again one day, it can proudly say that it did a good job in making all these people’s lives greater and better.
Pamayandeg sa Ranao Residences at Dansalan Council Leader Sorayda Sultan stated that the UN-Habitat has become an instrument so that affected residents like her would be able to rise again and have new hope.
She added that the organization has taught them how to establish a peaceful and clean community, foster and make their livelihood recover and be progressive.
“We are expressing our sincerest thanks to the UN-Habitat, especially to the people of Japan. Alam namin na hindi sapat ang mga salitang salamat kaya kami ay nangangako na pangangalagaan at pahahalagahan ang inyong mga ibinigay at tinuro sa amin [We know that a thank you is not enough that is why we promise to take care and give importance to what you have given and taught us],” said Sultan.
Norsalam Village HOA President Sultan Jojo Macarampat mentioned that the UN-Habitat has worked for them for almost five years and throughout those years, the organization did not leave them and became their good partner as it has always listened to their partners’ issues and concerns and always finds a solution, and because of that, the working environment was always positive.
Darussalam Village HOA President Datu Bla Macabando also expressed his sincerest gratitude to the UN-Habitat, recognizing that this was one of those given by Allah to help them have their own houses.
He underscored that the houses they have now are beautiful as they are concrete and sturdy, that even when typhoons would pass by, they would remain standing.
For his part, Hadiya Village HOA President Abdul Jalil Madid delivered his thanks to the UN-Habitat which has become a reliable ally of the residents in overcoming their struggle in owning houses.
“Sa lahat ng aming natutunan sa UN-Habitat, hindi namin iyon sasayangin [To all that we learned from the UN-Habitat, we will not make it go to waste]. We will try our very best. Kung anuman ang mayroon kami ngayon, ang bahay at livelihood, ito ay pangangalagaan namin [Whatever we have now, our houses and livelihood, we will take care of them],” he said.
As the UN-Habitat ended its project implementation here, it has already given livelihood and founded a total of 1,000 houses for the people here. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
