MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--City Mayor Majul Gandamra reminded the Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children (BCPC) here of their mandate of protecting children in their locality and taking care of their welfare.
"It is our mutual belief that the youth are the future nation builders of our country, they are the hope of tomorrow and thus, it is our responsibility as public servants to give them the best protection in order for them to have a better future, full of opportunities that would become their platforms to make Marawi a progressive city," said Gandamra during the recently-held BCPC Learning Summit.
Gandamra emphasized that barangays, being the 'nucleus government' of the country, have an inherent responsibility to be knowledgeable on the framework of child protection and the eventual implementation of related programs in pursuit of the genuine protection of our children.
As such, he lauded the World Vision and the Ministry of Interior and Local Government for spearheading the BCPC learning summit which provided a venue for the barangay local government units (BLGUs) to be refreshed on the legalities and functions, as well as planning and monitoring of programs about the protection of children.
"While it is easy to say that we lobby for the protection of our children’s rights, there are actually a plethora of complexities in implementing it. There is a need to lay it down to planning and writing before the actual implementation considering that the implementation of these programs is intended for the most vulnerable sector of our society," he further said.
The mayor also vowed that they would interact closely with the BLGUs and concerned agencies to craft local laws promoting children's welfare adding that it is their responsibility as elders to provide a good tomorrow for the children of the city. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
