MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The provincial government of Lanao del Sur is making sure that the youth here are ready to become future leaders in their respective communities.

This, as the provincial government through the Office of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President and Board Member Jamil Faisal “Jeff” Adiong continuously gives platforms for the youth to maximize their full potential.

"We are not just trying to empower young people through words or by preaching but we tried as much to empower them by giving them the deserved platforms and the spaces that they need," said Adiong.

He said they regularly conduct the Ranaw Parliament to ready the youth to become legislators or policy lobbyists. They also implemented the Ranaw Project Grant Program to prepare young people for social entrepreneurship.

The Board Member also spearheaded the Ranaw Youth Organizations’ Summit (RYOS), an annual convergence of youth organizations and youth-serving organizations in Lanao del Sur which aims to provide a platform for youth organizations to do knowledge-sharing and network-building.

"We are trying to multiply young advocates and leaders dahil ang tunay na boses ng kabataan ay wala sa SK president or sa ating gobyerno. Ang tunay na boses ng kabataan ay nagsisimula at nagmumula sa bawat kabataan, sa bawat organisasyon na nasa ating komonidad," he further said.

[We are trying to multiply young advocates and leaders because the true voice of the youth is not in the SK president or our government. The true voice of the youth begins and comes from every youth, in every organization in our community.]

Meanwhile, Adiong emphasized that despite all the challenges they encountered, from the Marawi siege to the COVID-19 pandemic, the provincial government through the SK Federation remained committed to providing the needed platforms for the youth.

This month, various activities have been lined up by the SK Federation to celebrate the Linggo ng Kabataan. These included mural painting, 3rd RYOS, Khat Calligraphy tilt, Adhan and Qur-an Reading Competitions, Quiz Show, 1st Ranaw Youth Debate Tournament, Cultural Performance Competition, and 4th Datu a Bantugen sa Ranaw.
