MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Some 25 internally displaced persons (IDPs) here just hit another milestone as they graduated Tuesday, August 9, from their chosen skills training for bread and pastry making offered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Such graduates were accordingly identified as breadwinners of their respective families belonging to the ‘poorest of the poor’ sector.
IOM Marawi Satellite Office Head Michael Dumamba shared that this initiative was under their project ‘Driving Marawi’s Rehabilitation through IDP Support, Community Development and Peaceful Transition Action’ that kicked off in 2017 and is continuously implemented up until the current day.
Reflecting on the positive impact of the delivered effort, Task Force Bangon Marawi’s (TFBM’) Johary Lumna highlighted the need for a collaborative effort of the government sector, non-government organizations, and citizens here for the city to rise as envisioned.
He reiterated the commitment of the government to the completion of the rehabilitation and successful recovery of the war-torn city, as evident in the newly passed Marawi Compensation Act of 2022.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education - Technical Education and Skills Development (MBHTE-TESD) Lanao del Sur Provincial Director Asnawi Bato and Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism’s (MTIT’s) Anna Farinah Mamainte firmly conveyed the roles of their offices in relation to the technical vocational course availed by the completers, stressing that they are always ready to aid however they can serve.
Following the graduation ceremony of 25 IDPs, a certificate of completion was conferred alongside the handover of starter kits which were deemed appropriate and beneficial for them to commence their new livelihood.
With this, city government’s Sahrodin Said urged the receivers to foster and sustain well what has been bestowed upon them. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
