MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The 82nd charter day celebration of Marawi showcased anew the rich and vibrant culture of the city,
Themed "Harnessing Culture in the Pursuit of Lasting Peace and Development," the celebration featured a cultural dance competition, a traditional game called 'kasipa,' and adhan recitation, among others.
"We are happy to say that despite the ravages of time, despite the pervasive influences of globalization, Marawi still has its unique cultural flavor, said City Mayor Majul Gandamra who emphasized such gives a sense of pride to its people.
Noting that the vibrant culture has always been the strongest point of the city, the mayor thanked the Meranaw people for continuously preserving the heritage and making it flourish until the present.
City Councilor Dr. Princess Pala Amera Gandamra also underscored the importance of preserving the cultural significance of the city as it vies to become the cradle of culture within the country.
The councilor said it is one of the goals of the present administration to promote the Islamic City of Marawi as a cultural hub of the county. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
