Marantao service providers grateful for mental health, psychosocial support training of CFSI

MARANTAO, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Seeing how their performance was enhanced while still giving importance to their mental and psychosocial health, service providers here showed how elated they were as they underwent the two-day basic mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) training spearheaded by the non-government organization Community and Family Services International (CFSI) from August 3 to 4 this year.

Joanisah Abdul Bashet, the Mental Health Gap Action Program (MHGAP) focal of the RHU-Marantao, expressed her gratitude to the organization for being able to experience attending the training.

She stressed that this would be beneficial, considering that the mental health of some of the constituents in the province is not given enough attention and most of the sufferers of mental health problems are mistaken to be exorcised, thus, brought to faith healers rather than to health professionals.

Bashet also mentioned that the training could also be applied to herself as she was taught of taking steps to minimize stress herself.

“Malaki siyang tulong, especially ngayon na marami kaming new clients na kailangan ng ganitong support… Hindi ko lang siya maiaapply sa work o pasyente. Pwede ko rin siyang maiapply sa sarili ko kasi as health providers, marami rin kaming mga pinagdadaanang pagsubok,” she said.

[This is a big help, especially now that we have new clients that need this kind of support… This cannot just be applied to my work or patients. I can also apply this to myself because as health providers, we also go through challenges.]

Samanudin Lao, the assistant of Loay Inudaran barangay chairman of Marantao town, likewise thanked the CFSI for conducting the basic MHPSS training as he mentioned that he learned things he should do for MHPSS.

For her part, Saliha Naga Masorong, the Marantao Sangguniang Kabataan Federated President, showed her gladness for being able to participate in the training.

She stated that this was timely and relevant considering that some youth nowadays suffer from depression.

Masorong looked forward to the time that the entire province would be able to enjoy this kind of effort.

“Kahit matapos pa ang term ko, maaapply ko pa rin siya sa mga kasama kong kabataan,.. Sana mas marami pa kayong matulungan, hindi lang aming LGU kung hindi lahat ng LGUs sa Lanao del Sur. Sana tuloy-tuloy ang connection natin at hindi dito magtatapos ang partnership natin. Sana may susunod pa na mga training na maoorganize.” she said.

[Even if my term ends, I can still apply this to my fellow youth… I hope you can still help a lot, not just our LGU but other LGUs in Lanao del Sur as well. I hope our connection will continue and our partnership will not end here. I hope more training will be more organized.] (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
