Islamic City of Marawi (12 October) -- The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has included more than 20 barangays here in the Election Watchlist of Areas in relation to the October 25 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
City Election Officer Tommy M. Macadindang disclosed that he had submitted the list identifying more than 20 out of the 96 barangays here.
He said they have closely monitored all the barangays in the city and those included in the watchlist have history of failure of elections.
Those barangays, Macadindang said, have also failed to function during the 2007 Barangay and SK elections.
In terms of the security measures, Macadindang said the local police have prepared a security plan for the coming polls.
He further said that the peace and order situation in relation to the Barangay and SK elections is okay except for what happened in barangay Mipaga where the contending parties had a misunderstanding.
He, however, stressed that it was an isolated case.
On the other hand, the city election officer revealed that as of today, about 70% have already filed their certificate of candidacy (COCs).
He added that the filling of the COCs will only be until 12 midnight tomorrow, October 13.
