Islamic City of Marawi (20 October) -- Lanao del Sur joined the rest of the world in celebrating today the first World Statistics Day.
A seminar jointly spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur and the National Statistics Office of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (NSO-ARMM) dubbed as Statistics and Its Crucial Role on Governance highlighted the local celebration here.
According to NSO Deputy Administrator Paula Monina G. Collado, the seminar is being conducted by the NSO in 20 provinces nationwide simultaneously today as their contribution to the celebration of the 1st World Statistics Day.
She said the main objective of the seminar is to promote the use of statistics in planning and evidence-based decision making.
Our participants are municipal planning officers so that they will know the different data NSO produces, she further said.
We are also orienting them on the available statistics which they may use when making decisions about certain plans, Collado added.
Collado said the topics discussed in the seminar were: the quarterly labor force survey, its objectives and the type of indicators produced from it; selected industry-based statistics; the results from the 2007 census of population; and the vital statistics in Lanao del Sur such as birth, death and marriage statistics.
A walk-through of the features of the NSO website was also conducted so that they will be informed that data can also be accessed through the website, she said.
