Lanao Sur police rescues abducted medrep

Islamic City of Marawi (20 October) -- Elements of the Lanao del Sur police rescued yesterday an abducted medical representative after two days in captivity.
Police Superintendent Cosanie M. Derogongan, provincial police director, said they recovered Jeffrey Regalado Almonia in Lumba Bayabao town Tuesday evening.
According to Derogongan, the 29-year old med rep based in Cagayan de Oro, was abducted on October 17 at Sto. Nino, Cagayan de Oro while settling unpaid debt transacted by his cousin amounting to P1,500.
He said their initial investigation showed that Almonia tried to locate the cellphone of his uncle which was allegedly pawn by his cousin to unidentified persons.
Jeffrey made a transaction thru text message with three (3) unidentified persons to redeem said cellphone but he was instead declared abducted by them, Derogongan said.
The abduction, Derogongan disclosed, was the result of an alleged illegal transaction entered into by the victim's cousin and the abductors.
The police director further disclosed that the victim was transported to the province on board Toyota Vios, color silver bearing plate no. ZMW-693, on October 19, where he was seen handcuffed by a concern citizen.
Upon receiving the report from the concern citizen thru our hotline number, we immediately proceeded to Lumba Bayabao where the victim and his abductors were last seen, Derogongan said.
The victim was turned-over this afternoon to Cagayan de Oro police headed by Danildo Tumanda, commander of the City Public Safety Company.
For their part, Tumanda said they are thankful to Lanao del Sur cops for recovering safely the victim.
On the other hand, Derogongan said further investigation to identify the suspects is still in progress.
