Village polls in Marawi, Butig reset to October 27

Islamic City of Marawi (26 October) -- The city COMELEC moved again the schedule of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections here tomorrow, October 27.

According to Atty. Rey Sumalipao, COMELEC-ARMM Director, the rescheduling was due to the failure in the reprinting of the voters' masterlist.

Last Monday, only 73 of the 96 barangays have conducted elections because of the delayed deliveries of the election paraphernalia. In fact, the election materials never reached some of the polling places, said Sumalipao.

The village polls in Butig town was also postponed due to the delay in the segregation of election material.

Mesug Palawan, the town's municipal treasurer, said the segregation required the presence of an Election Officer (EO).

It can be recalled that the COMELEC suspended the elections in all the 16 barangays of the town due to the unknown whereabouts of their EO Taha Ali.

The COMELEC meanwhile appointed EO Mike Pandi as OIC.

Security forces are in place and ready to escort the transport and delivery of the 36 ballot boxes as well as the police trainees which will serve as Board of Election Tellers (BET) tomorrow from the provincial capitol to the respective polling places in the said town.
