Lanao del Sur PPOC tackles election-related issues


Islamic City of Marawi (14 October) -- The provincial peace and order council (PPOC) chaired by Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal ?Bombit' Adiong tackled in its meeting yesterday, October 13, the issues affecting the conduct of peaceful and orderly elections.
The meeting was highlighted by the report of Atty. Nasib Yasin, Provincial Election Supervisor, on the situation updates regarding the forthcoming October 25 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections as well as the November 13 special elections.
Police Superintendent Cosanie Derogongan, Philippine National Police Provincial Director, and General Rey Ardo, army's 103rd Brigade Commander, also reported on the current peace and order situation in the province.
Part of the discussions during the meeting were: the alleged collection of payments by Election Officers on candidates filing their certificates of candidacy; availability and willingness of public school teachers to serve as board of election tellers (BETs) during the elections; conduct of special elections on November 13; and the masterlist that will be used as the basis of registered voters for the October 25 and November 13 polls.
The organization of the Provincial Integrated Security Coordinating Committee (PISCC), composed of six (6) sub-committees, was also discussed and approved during the meeting subject for further amendments.
The PISCC which serves as the operating arm of the PPOC will in a way make the council more efficient and effective in addressing the peace and order in the province.
The PPOC meeting was well-participated by the representatives from the AFP, PNP, Comelec, Sangguniang Panlalawigan, DILG, municipal mayors, and the chairmen of the 6 PISCC sub-committees.
