PNP hopes for less violence in Lanao Sur on Barangay, SK polls

Islamic City of Marawi (14 October) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Lanao del Sur said they are expecting violence to mar the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls but they are hoping it would only be minimal.
PNP Provincial Director Police Superintendent Cosanie M. Derogongan said they have solicited support from religious and traditional leaders in every municipality to help in campaigning for peaceful and orderly elections.
Derogongan also disclosed that the whole PNP is well-prepared for the conduct of elections this coming October 25.
We have already laid down the security plan for the Barangay and SK elections and we are assured of the security on the day of elections, he added.
The police director likewise revealed that all areas of the province were identified as areas of concerns while the towns of Tugaya, Lumbac-Unayan and Butig were placed under Comelec control.
Last 2007 elections, more than 200 barangays in the province have failed to conduct their elections due to poll-related violence.
