Violent incidents mar elections in Lanao Sur

Islamic City of Marawi (26 October) -- Violent incidents marred the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Lanao del Sur yesterday.
Police report showed that a shooting incident transpired at Bubong Elementary School in Balindong town wherein Alzamer Ampuan Danganan, 21 years old, single, jobless and a resident of the said place was shot to death by unidentified suspect using cal.45 pistol.
Police investigation showed that he was the nephew of incumbent barangay Chairperson Johara Magomnang.
Another shooting incident occurred at Central Elementary School in barangay Bacong Piagapo town wherein Amin Agasor Balinti, a candidate for barangay chairman, fired his nine (9) mm pistol in the air.
The police report also disclosed that a rapid gunshot was also heard at the polling center of Sultan Disomimba School in Marantao town.
Police Provincial Director, Superintendent Cosanie Derogongan, said incidents of master list and ballot box snatching happened in Lumba-Bayabao town.
The snatching of the registered voters' master list transpired at the vicinity of barangay Bacolod I, wherein incumbent barangay chairperson Norolain Boriongan forcibly grabbed said master list and handed it to his son, Macaurong Boriongan, who immediately fled away.
The joint police and military troops tried to stop the suspect but failed, Derogongan said.
He further said that the responding troops were even prompted to shoot Macaurong once hitting his right hand.
However, the master list was not recovered so the town's Election Officer just requested for a new copy from the Provincial Election Supervisor, he added.
The provincial director also disclosed that the first ballot box snatching occurred at the town's Municipal Hall.
He said the ballot box for Precinct 0025A of barangay Mapantao was forcibly grabbed by unidentified persons while the distribution of election paraphernalia was on-going causing its damage.
A grenade launcher was likewise fired from unknown direction to the house of Mawi Capitan which resulted to the wounding of Naim Capitan who was hit by splinters on different parts of his body.
Derogongan said the victim is now being treated at Amai Pakpak Medical Center, here in the city.
According to him, the motive is still to be determined
