Islamic City of Marawi (25 October) -- Lanao del Sur is all set and ready for the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October 25.
We are ready to conduct the elections although there are some technical glitches that we have to resolve to have successful, credible and peaceful elections, said Atty. Rey Sumalipao, regional director of COMELEC-ARMM.
He said all the barangays in the province will conduct elections tomorrow and they are hopeful that all precincts will function.
We are also thankful that the COMELEC central office approved our recommendation to have a standby board of election tellers (BETs) composed of police trainees from regions 9, 10, 11, 12 and CARAGA to cope up with the shortage of teachers which is major reason of failure of elections in the ARMM, Sumalipao said.
He further said that the policy of self-preservation is the top priority of individual so they are expecting some of the teachers to inhibit from serving as BETs because of perceived danger in their lives.
The regional director also lauded the immediate action of the PNP to send police trainees in the region.
The election paraphernalia arrived last October 21 and was held in the custody of the Provincial Treasurer at the Provincial Capitol for distribution to the respective municipal treasurer offices today.
Under the rules and regulations of the COMELEC, the municipal treasurers will distribute them to the BETs first hour of the elections day, Sumalipao added.
