Haribon brigade intensifies poll-related security operations


Islamic City of Marawi (15 October) -- The army's 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade based in Kampo Ranao, this city, is intensifying its law enforcement and security operations to ensure the honest, orderly and peaceful conduct of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October 25, 2010.
According to Gen. Rey Ardo, Brigade Commander, they had initiated meetings with the local poll body and police to identify the elections watchlist areas.
They also conducted preemptive security patrols and force projection patrol in Lanao del Sur as well as implemented the gun ban through checkpoint operations.
The Commanding General announced that the Brigade Election Monitoring Action Center (BEMAC) will also be activated to oversee poll-related matters.
Ardo cited that their main role with regards to the October 25 elections is to provide security to the polling places, voters, poll body personnel, election paraphernalia and candidates.
Moreover, he disclosed their continuing support in law enforcement by deploying company size of troops with two armored vehicles in Tugaya town where a former mayor was ambushed last month.
The Haribon brigade have three (3) Infantry Battalions (IB) namely 51IB, 64IB and 65IB situated in Malabang, Saguiaran, and this city, respectively.
