Islamic City of Marawi (14 October) -- The Provincial Election Supervisor (PES) of Lanao del Sur reiterated that the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is not charging fees for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs).
Atty. Nasib Yasin made the statement in response to reports that Election Officers in the province are allegedly asking payments from candidates filing their respective COCs.
I want to inform the public that no charge can be collected from any person filing his COC, Yasin stressed.
He said those making such allegations should file a formal complaint so that they can be investigated.
He cited that if an election officer is found guilty, the proper sanction will be removal from office.
Yasin also appealed to the candidates, their supporters and relatives, as well as the voting public to respect the law and follow its provisions regarding the conduct of peaceful and clean elections.
The PES meanwhile added that the filing of COCs for the Barangay and SK polls will only be until 12 midnight, October 13.
He further said that they are still waiting for reports from their field offices as to the number of candidates who filed their COCs.
We will have an exact figure on the number of candidates two (2) days after the last day of filing COCs, he added.
