MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Some 50 women who were living in the landfill area in Brgy. Papandayan Caniogan here expressed their utmost joy as they all received toolkits like ovens and sewing machines from the Office of Member Parliament (MP) Atty. Maisara Dandamun-Latiph.

These recipients have undergone training in dressmaking and bread and pastry making while a start-up capital worth P15,000 each was also given through the partnership with the Bangsamoro Transition Authority-Gender and Development (BTA-GAD), Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education-Technical Education Skills and Development (MBHTE-TESD), and Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD).

Beneficiary Noraida Anda Maruhom who underwent training in bread and pastry making shared how thankful she is to Latiph for giving her an oven that would greatly help her in terms of livelihood.

She stressed that being a mother of five children with her husband having no stable job made her struggle, and it is with Latiph's aid that she was given hope to aspire more in life.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa natanggap ko kasi nakatulong sa amin iyon. Mapapakanibangan ko iyon. Makakatulong iyon sa aming pamilya. Noong hindi nila kami natulungan, mahirap kasi wala kaming magamit. Ngayon, may binigay sa amin,” said Maruhom.

[We are thankful for what we received because it really helped us. We can make use of that. It can help my family. Before, when there was no help, it was difficult because we had nothing to use. Now, something was already given.]

Another beneficiary Norhanifa Sangcopan, a single mother with two children, cited how beneficial it is for her to have the training on dressmaking and receive a sewing machine as this would give her additional livelihood.

As such, she conveyed her utmost gratitude to Latiph.

“Wala kaming masyadong mapagkukunan ng hanapbuhay. Ngayon na nakuha namin ang toolkits so para sa amin, may magagawa na kami. Sobra kaming nagpapasalamat na nabigyan kami ng pagkakataon,” said Sangcopan.

[We did not have any source of livelihood. Now, we have the toolkits so for us, we can already do something. We are very thankful for the given opportunity.]

Beneficiary Faidah Sarip, a mother of ten children whose husband is a construction worker, relayed how difficult their life was as they had to find ways to survive their day-to-day living.

Now that they were extended help by Latiph, she is already optimistic that their hardship will be eased as they would have another livelihood.

“Noong una, ang hirap kasi walang-wala kami. Wala pa kaming hinihintay na tulong. Ngayon, masaya na kami na makatanggap kami nito. Salamat kay MP Maisara,” said Sarip.

[Before, it was really difficult because we had really nothing. We did not even have help to wait. Now, we are happy because we received this. Thank you to MP Maisara.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
