MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Department of Health (DOH) reiterated its call to the public to remain vigilant against the coronavirus disease (Covid)-19.
Dr. Abdullah Dumama Jr., DOH-Field Implementation and Coordination Team for Visayas and Mindanao Undersecretary, made the call during the inauguration of the Integrated Provincial Health Office here Wednesday, July 20, noting that Covid-19 cases in some parts of the country are again increasing.
"Kailangan pa natin ng konting [we still need a few] reminders that COVID-19 is still around us. We are not yet out of the woods," he said.
Dumama stressed that although healthcare utilization is still low as of press time, COVID-19 cases are constantly rising.
He said this could be due to relaxing alert levels in more parts of the country, decreasing compliance to minimum public health standards, and low vaccination coverage.
For Lanao del Sur, Dumama disclosed that it has attained 55% vaccination coverage which is still far from the target community protection. Nevertheless, it has the highest vaccination coverage among the provinces in the Bangsamoro region.
As such, Dumama reminded the public here to always follow health protocols and to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
"If you are not yet vaccinated even once, now is the best time to get one, complete the two primary doses, and avail of the booster dose thereafter," he said.
Dumama stressed that government needs the people’s help and cooperation to defeat the coronavirus. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
