LDS lawmakers: Oath of office a symbol of service to public

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--As officials of the province of Lanao del Sur held a mass oath-taking before the presence of Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri Monday, July 4, two provincial legislators firmly underlined that the pledge they had just taken symbolized their commitment to being in service for their constituents.

“The oath that we have taken symbolizes our commitment to serve the people by exemplifying quality and competence for the advancement of our province and the people are our top priority,” said 2nd District Representative Congressman Yasser Balindong in his closing speech during the event.

Citing Section 1, Article 11 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution which declares that the public office is a public trust, 1st District Representative Congressman Ziaur-Rahman Alonto Adiong looked forward that they would efficiently carry out their mandate as they were all entrusted the most sacred asset of the people which is the government.

He stressed that they are now obligated to uphold the integrity of their offices by not only addressing social concerns but also delivering the most quality service most effectively and efficiently as after all, they are being paid by the taxpayers’ money to do exactly this duty and ensure that the government of the people, by the people and for the people does not only limit to a mere political maxim or political thought but leave a reality for everyone to enjoy.

“We affirm our commitment to serve our communities and we pledge that by doing so, we at the same time call ourselves accountable to our people,” said Adiong.

Such was affirmed by Balindong who conveyed that elected candidates were reminded once again that the public trust bestowed upon them comes with great understanding and that they must lead their respective localities with due transparency and accountability to continue improving the quality of lives of their people.

As such, he assured that they would continue to execute and promote reforms in the local government, as well as improve the implementation of the policies they have and will create.

Both representatives also appealed for collective efforts from the public to reach their aim which is the advancement of their province.

Adiong underscored that as the election is already over, they call on and reach their hands in unity and peace to the people to get together and answer the national call for unity and healing.

Balindong, on the other hand, emphasized the critical contribution of each individual to the province’s governance, encompassing planning, consultative decision-making, and leader-supervised and people-oriented policy implementation.

“I look forward to working with you all as we lay the foundations of our government that creates space for significant changes, that works together to seize new opportunities, and that facilitates a new era of transformative leadership that will leave a solid footprint for the next years to come,” he said.
