MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--As the Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW)-Philippines takes a unique path in extending its assistance specifically to internally displaced persons (IDPs) situated in Ditsaan-Ramain town here, the Bangsamoro region’s Ministry of Trade and Investment (MTIT) through its Lanao del Sur Provincial Office commended the international non-government organization, stressing that it is a good model for others.

This, as the IRW-Philippines, conducted first a financial management training through the help of the MTIT before giving out the start-up capital worth P50,000 per group to 600 recipients who are divided into groups with ten members each.

MTIT Lanao del Sur Provincial Office’s Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Malano Mai underlined that such an act is worth emulating by others so that more assistance will be for the long term.

“Napakagandang modelo ang ginawa ng Islamic Relief na icapacitate muna ang beneficiaries bago ibigay ang assistance para hindi mawala at maensure ang sustainability ng project,” she said.

Mai stressed that whatever the organization will give will be a good start to the livelihood of some IDP beneficiaries.

The specialist cited their role in the financial management training of the IRW-Philippines. She said they bear the task of capacitating and preparing the beneficiaries on how to run their businesses so that the assistance that will be given to them soon will not be in vain but rather sustainable.

Mai further stressed that it is important to have the businesses of the beneficiaries prosper as they will take part in boosting the economy of the Bangsamoro region.

As such, she hoped that the organization will broaden its coverage so that more people will receive help, especially those poorest of the poor.

Mai also conveyed to the recipients that they have to utilize well what they will receive as they are fortunate enough to be recipients of such.

“Sana iyong ibibigay sa kanila na assistance ay alagaan nila kasi sila ang magiging tulay upang umunlad ang kanilang munisipalidad kasi ang project na ito ay hindi lang pansarili kung hindi pampamilya rin at sa komunidad nila,” she said.
