MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--A list of wishes and desires made by locals here is waiting to be fulfilled by the new President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Just as he had finally sworn his oath of office Thursday, June 30, City Councilor Abdani Alonto stated that they were all expecting much from him, specifically with what he could do with the problems faced by the island of Mindanao such as the 2017 Marawi siege.
He said although the Duterte administration has already done so much for the rehabilitation of the city, many things were still left to be attained by the next government to vitalize the started projects and develop more the locality and even the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“We are expecting that the Marcos administration will extend many programs to the BARMM or Muslim populace, most especially in Marawi City,” said the councilor.
City government’s Local Youth Development Officer Yusoph Pangadapun emphasized that as new Marcos Jr. has established his presidential campaign slogan “unity is the key to a better governance”, residents here were expecting good governance as they also guaranteed to give their full support to the said administration.
He strengthened the previous advice to carry on the rehabilitation of the city here as he cited that this might be one of the legacies of the previous administration but there were still ongoing projects that needed to be continued.
Pangadapun also wanted the Marcos administration to push for the compensation of the 2017 siege victims.
Underscoring even more the slogan of UniTeam which Marcos Jr. had bannered during his candidacy, civil society representative Abulkhair Alibasa conveyed that he anticipated that the unity be really advocated and carried out among Filipinos to finally conclude the rampant corruption and all actions that contribute to bad governance in the country.
Apart from wanting to have good governance, he hoped as well that the Marcos administration would grant their request to create a Search Committee for the selection of members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority so that the new President would accordingly be guided in choosing the most ideal and preferred by the public to be deserving to have a seat in the Bangsamoro parliament.
Alibasa further appealed to President Bongbong Marcos that Marawi CSOs Convergence Group be included as one of the members of the Marawi Compensation Board, that at least three Muslims be included as his energetic and passionate Cabinet members, help the member-consumers of Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc (LASURECO) by condoning the outstanding obligation of the said electric power industry regulator, and re-appoint Mr. Saidamen Pangarungan as the chairman of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
For her part, City Schools Division of Marawi (CSDM) Superintendent Dr. Anna Zenaida Unte-Alonto conveyed that as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is much capable already to serve the country, she still hoped that he would stick to rules and laws with their implementation being properly done.
“We just need to strengthen the imposition of different rules, and maybe check later on, validate and assess. And, we need to modify as these all gears to the betterment of all Filipino people,” she said.
Public Employment Service Office’s (PESO’s) Cabsaran Pacasum Jr., on the other hand, posted that he looked forward to the continuity of what has been started well by the outgoing administration.
He added that he wanted the new leadership to keep the help for the citizens of the city here, especially the rehabilitation efforts, the investment priority programs, and the bolstering of education and social services. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
