MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Some 85 madrasahs and torils in both Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte provinces benefit from the Qurbani program of Islamic Relief Philippines.
The international humanitarian and development organization started Monday, July 11, with the distribution of sacrificial meat packs to learners of the said torils and madrasahs.
Sixty-five (65) of the recipient Islamic educational institutions are in Marawi City and municipalities of Ditsaan-Ramain, Mulondo, Taraka, Tamparan, Masiu, Lumbatan, Lumba Bayabao, Bacolod Kalawi, and Tugaya in Lanao del Sur while 18 are from Iligan City and municipalities of Pantar and Baloi in Lanao del Norte.
Sittie Jamairah Disomimba, Islamic Relief's area programme manager for Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, and Lanao del Norte, said the Qurbani is one of Islamic Relief's seasonal programs which aims to give cows meat to vulnerable and needy members of society and bring some cheer during the Eid'l Adha.
"For Lanao del Sur, we targeted around 3,000 kilos and specific for madaris or madrasahs and torils. It is for the learners, unlike before that, we targeted households but this time around, it is the madrasahs and torils," she said.
Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is the second of two worldwide Islamic celebrations. During this Eid, Muslims slaughter a goat, sheep, or cow to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, for the sake of God
Disomimba said the number of meat packs to be distributed for each toril or madrasah depends on the number of its learners. Accordingly, two kilograms of meat is allocated for every five learners.
Ustadhs and Ustadhas thank Islamic Relief for choosing their respective madrasahs and torils as beneficiaries of the Qurbani program.
"Nagpapasalamat kami sa Islamic Relief na kahit maliit lang po ang aming madrasah ay nasali kami sa kanilang program. Sana marami pa silang matulungan. Ipagpatuloy lang nila ang mga magagandang ginagawa nila na pagtulong sa mga madrasah," Ustadha Sorayah Doble said.
[We are thankful to Islamic Relief that even though our madrasah is small, we were included in their program. We are hoping they can help more and continue the good things that they are doing in assisting the madrasahs.]
"Kapag nasasali kami sa mga ganitong activity, masaya kami. Malaking tulong ito sa amin. Salamat sa Islamic Relief sa pagtulong nila sa amin," added Ustadha Norma Imam.
[We are happy when we are included in activities like this. This is a big help to us. Thanks to Islamic Relief for helping us.
Since 2017, more than 15,000 families in Maguindanao, Marawi, Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Lanao del Sur have benefitted from the Qurbani program. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
